Hello!
It's the countdown to Spring! Exactly two more weeks now! I couldn't wait to break out my newest floral skirt though. This is the one I got when I went to exchange an impulse buy last week. I adore the sweet, dainty floral print, and the button down front, and that it has pockets. I'm in total floral and lace mood now. I haven't pattern-mixed in a long while so I thought I would instead of pairing it with a plain white t-shirt which was my first instinct and what I wore to the flea market on Saturday. I like how this outfit came out, and it gave me an excuse to wear a green bow (like I needed one anyway). I think pattern mixing is easier when you pair like colors together and you just think of them as solids (ie. the mint green goes well with the pastel blue). This green bow was actually my first bow ever--the one that catapulted this obsession. It feels nice to take it out every now and then.

Sometimes I get overwhelmed with a guilty feeling of being so materialistic/shallow for being a fashion blogger and enjoying shopping so much. Lately I've been feeling this way. I mean my money, time, and effort could be spent better elsewhere than on my closet. My brother, who isn't usually much of a shopper, had his materialistic/shallow moment this weekend when he bought himself $75 headphones and a $54 chambray shirt from UO, all in less than an hour. I felt myself disapproving of his actions, but then in my head, I asked myself how different am I? Am I really all that better? I'm worse since I do it more frequently, albeit not as extreme, but I still do it. Sure dressing well makes me feel good about myself, but what's the point of looking good if I'm not so good looking on the inside? I need to cool it with the shopping. I think another 30 for 30 challenge is just what I need to remind me of the remixability and value of clothes.

Until next post,
Jasmine

  1. Adorable outfit! I am loving this print mix and especially the colors!

I sometimes definitely feel the same way about shopping. Like I've been appreciating clothes more and know that if I like something I should buy it...instead of just buying something because it's on sale. But it's definitely taking my shopping to an extreme high.

I think soon I will attempt this 30 for 30 challenge!

  3. Aw! I love this outfit so much and I love that this was your first ever bow. That little peice has a lot of history. It started the amazing Jasmine signature look. I know what you mean girl about feeling guilty. Sometimes I am the same, but you know - its just like everything else...you can be passionate about music, art, dancing, fitness, WHATEVER - and you and I and others are passionate about fashion and blogging. I love it, truly! Cant wait to see new outfits you whip up in spring time, you are just the sweetest peach! xo

  4. The prints are very cute together! And I can't wait for spring either, other than the allergies kicking in. But I feel the same. Sometimes, I catch myself being too materialistic, wanting everything and anything I see that I like but I need to learn to spend moderately and wisely. I need to go on that 30 for 30 challenge too. I tell myself all that time and never do. How do you do it...

  5. Such a great tip for pattern mixing! I just tried for the first time last week, hahaha (that might sound silly...).

This is an adorable outfit! I also can't wait for spring! :D

  7. I do love the mix of stripes and prints! I've felt similar to you when it comes to materialism. It's so hard to live against the grain of our mainstream culture. And I really appreciate aesthetics, so that's another battle for me. Maybe make a vow to only thrift shop for a certain amount of time? Or start a blog series on upcycling clothes or using them in new ways? Hmmm....

  8. I don't think it's wrong to be into clothes/fashion/shopping as much as we are... as long as we know how to limit ourselves and KNOW that life is not all about such "shallow" or "materialistic" things. And although I can't claim to really know you, I'm pretty sure you are a sweet, kind person who values family and friends and love (and all other such things) more than anything else. :3

Anyway, this outfit is just so full of pastel goodness! I love it! So sweet that you still take out your first bow once in a while. <3

  9. You're so cute. You are not shallow for wanting to present yourself well. More people should take the amount of effort you do getting dressed. You can't help you live in a "slobified" nation.
Also, I LOVE the stripes and floral. Especially your twist with the light blue stripes- so cute.

  10. Indulging every once in a while is human. It makes us feel better. Sometimes we do it as a reward to ourselves for something unselfish we've done and sometimes we reward ourselves for selfish reasons. As long as we keep sight of what's real and important there isn't anything wrong with it. Feeling guilty is only natural, too. We all have buyer's remorse every now and then.

With that said, that skirt is really pretty and so is the setting of these photos.
I'm counting the days until Spring and will switch my wardrobe on the 20th cold or not!

  11. I love the light blue palette, with the mix of florals and stripes! Aww I know how you feel, perhaps you should try forcing yourself to indulge in other activities, like reading or hanging out, NOT shopping, or perhaps dig through your closet and kind of go through your stuff and try to remix and re-wear old clothes so you won't feel the need to buy new ones! Yay for 30 for 30 challenges! I look forward to one!

  12. You look so pretty in light colored clothes. I really love the palatte you chose with the black tights.

And if I were you, I'd take a break from shopping for awhile. Every now and then I give myself 30 days to not buy a single piece of clothing or accessory. You'll start to realize how much you really have. And another thing. You're not shallow. You have so many other qualities that don't make you shallow:)

And I'm so relieved, my spring break just started today. It's MUCH needed!

  14. Don't say that about yourself. Everyone feels that every once in a while. I love to shop! But, I try not to make impulsive choices. That's why I always shop with my mum. haha
You can try to shop with people that can stop you from making impulse buys.
You always look awesome when you wear stripes and florals together! I have a similar floral skirt too. Button down front, but a bolder color.
A 30 for 30 challenge is good too!
You have my support, Jasmine! =)
