Hello!
This outfit is full of impulse buys. It's kind of embarrassing to say that I have a lot of these impulse buys in my closet. I bought them because I thought they were cute and had money to spend, but after one wear and the tags torn off, they weren't quite as appealing as they were in the dressing rooms. They now are rotten in my closet. Take this skirt for example. I bought it in Fall and only wore it once. I think the fact that it's mostly black kind of intimidates me since I don't wear a ton of black.

But I'm changing.
I'm really trying to make use of what I already have. I'm also trying to space out my new purchases so the thrill of wearing new things lasts longer. I usually rip off the tags when I get home and wear my new things immediately. I want to break out of this cycle of shopping hauls though. I buy things; wear them; buy more things; forget previous things; wear the newer things; rinse and repeat). Now I don't think this would be bad if I wasn't shopping as frequently as I did. I want to move towards building one cohesive closet--one that makes me want to mix old with new things. I remember vaguely at one point I had a goal of having a minimalistic closet, well I think I've been moving in the opposite directions. While one of its purposes is to document how I wear clothes, blogging has ironically made me so much more frivolous with money and clothes; and whether I find a new job soon or not, I need to change this mindset. Clothes are not disposable.

Have you ever made an impulse buy?

Tomorrow is the last day to enter the Shabby Apple Giveaway! You don't want to miss out on your chance to win a really cute dress!

Until next post,

  1. Good for you Jasmine!! I think you're gonna do great at this new challenge you've set up for yourself.

So I have plenty of impulse buys, but nothing that really makes me feel regretful. Well I did spend $80 on shampoo and conditioner once...that was kind of a dumb thing I regret:)

  2. That top is super cute. I always love what you do with color. I feel like I'm so opposite from you, where all I'm comfortable with is black, and color is the thing I'm a bit afraid of.

Most of my wardrobe consists of impulse buys. I feel like I have so many clothes, but nothing to wear. I'm also working on incorporating more of the things I have into everyday wear, and not clinging to the same things I'm comfortable with. Shopping my own closet, as you have said.

  3. I used to be the queen of impulse buys! I miss shopping... sigh. I got bored with clothes so quickly that I felt like i always needed new things to work into the mix. But I have been trying to pay off my student loans so now I only allow myself to buy one thing a month. It's been hard because I love clothes, but maybe when my loans are paid off I will go on a small spree- woohoo! You look so pretty in that skirt! It's black but the print is super cute!

  4. Whenever you see something you want to buy, hand the cost of the item, in cash, over to Robert and have him hide it somewhere away from you. Do this for a month and see how much money you saved and then resist the urge to splurge and put it into an interest-earning savings account. You really don't need the clothes!

  5. "Impulse Buy" should be my middle name. Ha! I am getting a lot better though. I really try to keep it to a minimal these days. I did get a ton of friendship bracelets from AE the other day.. but 6 for $10 was too good of a deal to pass up.

I love that you choose cheery colors in your wardrobe, but would love to see you incorporate more black into it too. I think you could totally pull it off!

    xx Love & Aloha

  6. I never do impulse buys because I regret more than not! I always opt for high quality clothes that last so I think that's why I take more time making decisions and buy so infrequently. But then when I wait too long, the item tends to go out of stock :((( Oh well.

  7. I wish it was that easy to have a minimalistic closet. One thing that helps me remember what I already own is to sort through and organize my clothing several times a season. Then it's easier to see what pieces will fit in with my wardrobe and help me get more wear out of what I already have. It's easier to avoid impulse shopping when I'm shopping with a purpose. Good luck!

  8. Oh goodness, I have made so many impulse buys! When I first started losing weight, I would just buy things because they fit, which meant a lot of garments in my closet that I didn't really like but felt like I had to wear. Now, though, I try to be very picky with what I buy and just buy versatile pieces that I really love. I still have my impulsive moments though ;)

Anyway, I love this outfit! I actually have that skirt, and I love how you styled it with a graphic tee. Also, you are just too cute in that last photo, girl! :)

  10. I have had my share of impulse buys over the years, especially from thrift shops! And although one can argue that it isn't THAT bad because those are relatively cheaper than store purchases... well, my bursting-at-the-seams closet begs to differ. Junk is junk, and they are surprisingly hard to get rid of. BUT I'm proud to say I've changed my shopping ways quite drastically. I'm a lot more careful and discerning with things I see at the shops, although I do allow myself to buy the stuff that I REALLY love. (:

But enough of my little novel. Lol. I hope you get tons more wear out of that skirt because it's a cutie! And I adore your tortoise shell sunnies (you know I'm currently obsessed with those!). <3
