dress - thrifted / belt - f21 / shoes - swedish hasbeens x h&m
Hello!
My search for the perfect sleeved sundress has been put off. I rediscovered this pretty little thing in my closet. I feel like this dress embodies everything I hope to be and hope to dress like in the future: sophisticated, yet still cute and cheery. Everybody has to grow up sometime and I'm starting to outgrow wearing bows in my hair. Of course I still love bows and will still find ways to sneak them (ie. on a shirt, on a belt, on a ring, or on a pair of shoes). I want to give midi length dresses and skirts a try someday too. Maybe when I'm not on such a strict budget.
The reason I dug this out from my closet was Robert and I were having a deep conversation about dresses (Seriously is he not the guy for me? Or maybe he has just spent way too much time with me?). He told me that dresses are dresses--and shouldn't be worn as tops or skirts; but being the blogger I am, I have worn dresses as tops and as skirts before. I have a love/hate relationship with dresses. I love that they are so easy: you just slip it on, and you don't need to worry about finding something else to pair with it. But that's also why I hate them--there's only so many ways you can wear a dress...as a dress. When I discovered that you could layer things over a dress to make it something else, I thought it was the coolest thing ever and was overwhelmed with new possibilities. I don't think either of us are really wrong. Not all dresses can be worn as anything else, but not all dresses are condemned to stay just a dress. I don't know which category this particular dress falls into, but I cannot wait to find out.
Until next post,
Jasmine
This dress is an awesome thrifted find.
ReplyDeleteI want your swedish hasbeens SO bad. ;___; No H&M where I live.
You always have the most amazing thrift finds! this dress is no exception, you look amazing!
ReplyDeleteyou know, when I buy a new dress, the first thing I do when i come home is try it on and mix and match with as many possible things in my wardrobe. Did that today too. Layering is an art. I LOVE it! x
Why do you have such amazing thrift finds? I'm so crummy at thrifting. I absolutely adore the fit of this dress, and the pattern, ugh everything <3! I'm probably the worst at mixing and matching, care to teach me? :)
ReplyDeleteI think dresses are pretty easy to style up during the winter because you can layer and change all of the extra things you pile on - its in the summer that I find them so hard to style. Its too hot to layer but I feel so weird in just a dress and nothing else. Its like I need to be wearing at least 5 articles of clothing before I am comfortable!!
ReplyDeletegreat find! you look so cute absolulty love love the dress!!

The pictures of you are gorgeous!! I love this color on you too:) I swear you just found the most flattering color for yourself! And I commend you on remixing your dresses as skirts or tops. I mean, I'm so lazy I never really feel like adding more to my dresses;)
ReplyDeleteI really love this dress! It's exactly what you said- sophisticated but still super cute!
ReplyDeleteJasmine, this dress is absolutely PERFECT by itself! You don't need anything else and the those shoes are the perfect match. That blue color is my favorite shade!
ReplyDeleteThis dress is awesome. I LOVE windowpane patterns. And I love how this dress is unique yet seems like it would also be versatile. Great color too.
ReplyDeleteJasmine, this dress is freakin' adorable. It looks wonderful on you. You definitely had a keen eye when it comes to thrifting. :D
ReplyDeleteI agree that dresses aren't very versatile, but I love a great dress. I hope to see you wearing this more often during these summer months. You're creative, I'm sure you'll style it in different and interesting ways!
Oh and thanks again for choosing me. I'm so excited to get my Shabby Apple dress!
xx Love & Aloha
Your dress is oh-so darling! <3 I love the pale blue colour and the checked pattern!

That dress is so so cute Jasmine! I'm with you on this side of the argument, dresses are so versatile and it would be a waste to only ever wear them as dresses. You're doing us bloggers proud! I was going to email you soon about the possibility of setting up a little swap if you'd be interested as I'm trying to put myself on a shopping ban this summer! x
ReplyDeleteThis really is the perfect little sleeved sundress! I'm in love with the color and the simple pattern and I want to steal it from you. I wish I had more money to spend so I could go hunting for one just like it. And I have the same feeling about dresses. I love wearing a dress on it's own but then it's harder to remix it unless you focus on shoes and accessories. I still love wearing dresses as skirts and tops though!
ReplyDeleteAND I LOVE YOUR NEW LAYOUT. The header is ridiculously adorable with the little paper boat. <3
Sleeved sundresses are so hard to find! I hate letting the tops of my arms show, for some reason, so whenever I find cute ones, I always end up needing to wear a cardigan or a t-shirt underneath.
ReplyDeleteThis outfit is beautiful. I Love that it's all about the integrity of the dress, which is gorgeous.
i love this dress on you, i'm glad you rediscovered it!
ReplyDeleteThat dress is so cute on you! And I love those shoes :)
ReplyDeletesuch a good find, looks great with the hasbeens :)
ReplyDeleteI still remember this dress from the first time you posted it! And it is still as lovely and perfect on you as before. <3
ReplyDeleteHm, totally agree with you about dresses. They can be super convenient, especially when you are in a hurry to get dressed! But they can get blah, too, and quite tiresome. Well I don't wear my dresses as anything else too often, but I think it's because I don't have too many pieces that would work that way. I admire people who wear the same things repeatedly but put a different spin to them, though, so...BOO Robert. Haha. Just do what you want because you have some really cute ideas up your sleeve! (:
(Sorry about my little novel. :p)
Let me explain my position. To me, dresses are high in design, so great dresses are carefully designed with every piece complementing itself absolutely. Therefore, if you change this design, you've destroyed the design. And worst case scenario is that as you've destroyed the original design, you've made it better, which means that the original design wasn't so great to begin with. The point is that dresses are created to be dresses. Wearing a dress as a top or a skirt is insulting to that dress's design (partly because you are in essence hiding parts of the dress). And I think that it's important to remember the human passion that went behind a dress. Those hours of design and experimentation are basically wasted and declared incompetent when you hide its bottom and pretend its a shirt.
ReplyDeleteObvious exclusion being wearing accessories since the purpose of accessories are to augment original designs in the first place.
