Back to Reality

Photobucket

Hello!
While I'm waiting for some photos from a few people, I'll just resume with the normal blog posts until I can get everything in order! All I can say for now is that it was one of the best weekends of my life! I'm already having bloggers and NYC withdrawals! The day of the Chictopia 10 Conference was the best. I feel as if I made many new best friends overnight, but more on that later...Tuesday was my first day at my new preschool teaching job.

It was a really rough day. The other teacher who's supposed to work with me is also the owner of the preschool/my best friend's mom and is also currently out of the country. So I was forced into working with the children on my own. It was definitely scary and confusing. I really started missing the preschool I had interned at, which had way more structure in the schedules, rules, and lesson plans. The children there were also more disciplined and didn't come from such broken families. I was definitely spoiled with good kids at my internship, but I'm welcoming the challenge. I want to change these kids' lives, so hopefully I can. I'm writing this on Tuesday night so hopefully things will have gotten better by then.

I decided not to go too fashionista on my first day, but I think even this simple outfit was too much. I also wanted to make a good impression on the parents while being comfortable enough to chase the kids around. The other teachers are in t-shirts and jeans, and one kid even asked why I was wearing my belt on my shirt instead of on pants, so I guess they've never seen that before. I donated all my jeans though since I never wear them, so I have no idea what to wear to work...! I was supposed to search for teacher clothes while in NYC but couldn't find any so I will just have to make due with what I have.

Tuesday was also the day I was reunited with Robert after my trip to NYC. We went on a little date of dinner and shopping. You would think that after a whole weekend filled with shopping that I would be sick of it, but I actually kinda missed the small stores in my city. Everything in NYC was super-sized, especially the stores. There wasn't a store that I walked into that wasn't multi-storied. I didn't really buy anything though. I did get some skin care products from The Body Shop since they were having a sale. I still really love the Aveeno scrub I raved about a couple posts ago, but the Body Shop's seaweed skin care line has been getting rave reviews so I thought I might try it out while it's on sale!

Check out my first two recaps of my trip here and here.

Until next post,
Jasmine

  2. AWWW TOO CUTE. Actually. I just aww'ed out loud in front of my laptop. No worries, my parents don't even doubt that I am half-insane now ;). I ruv ruv RUV this. So much ruv. Actually. You need to teach me how you tie your belt like that. Oh, I know what you mean with the teacher clothes thing... it's similar to the office environment thing!! I really think this works well, my advice would be to opt for a shirt dress (for days when you have a meeting or something more business-y), but otherwise this outfit is perfect.

I WANT THAT PURSE SO BAD. My local F21 doesn't have it.... I'm so sad. Actually heartbroken. I was hoping that could be my future school bag as opposed to a lame-o backpack, but looks like I'm stuck with mine for awhile. My cousins say they have it in their local F21 but can't ship it up to me :( EPICSADFACE. For now, I will lust over yours and Kristy's :)

    xoxo!!

  5. AHHH KIDS. They're so wonderful and horrible at the same time. Hang in there, Jasmine, I know you can do it! First day's always rough, but it usually gets easier! I'm sure you'll be a special someone in the lives of the kids and will be able to make a difference! Bahahaha I totally cracked up when you wrote about that kid asking about your belt. You definitely don't need to wear jeans, but maybe buy some leggings or just comfortable clothes like shorts to wear in general (although I think your outfit is perfect, casual and chic). I'm still in love with your shoes, and that whole outfit is perfect with the belt and bag.

    Yay carousel :)

I'm sure you'll be able to influence those kids for the better, and I'm sure everything will get easier with time! :)

Also, thanks so much for sending me that picture of us! <3

  7. Hi Jasmine!

I'm sorry to hear your work day was rough, but I know for sure it'll get easier and better with time. You look so cute in your ribbon flats! I have been dreaming about your shoes for a long time now and I wish I had some money left over to buy a pair :)

I'm also waiting for photos and now I'm cursing my dumb camera for running out of batteries, but really I should be cursing myself.

    Love love,
    Jenny

  9. Oh I wish we could work together!! I'm a little annoyed that you had to do the first day by yourself. That is very unnerving when you have a room full of unruly kids. But everything will fall into place soon.

  10. I'm a HUGE fan of this outfit...like a HUUUUGE fan. I love that dress and i spy your topshop belt!!!!! I just wore mine for an outfit shoot and I can't wait to post it! :)

I don't think you're too fashionista for your job in this outfit. It's pretty basic and you didn't overdo it. Everyone else is just underdressing, haha. Hopefully you're not bombarded with work and classes. I miss you tons, come back to the east coast!

  11. you're so adorable, espesh with the bows in your hair!

over the summer i worked at a daycare, which was SO fun and SO exhausting, but SO rewarding :) kids are wonderful. And i've been spoiled with good kids at my various babysitting/daycare/tutoring jobs too, and i'm about to go through the same adjustment as you at this new volunteer program i'm doing!

  12. It's not "too fashionista" but it's very stylish and very you -- that's what counts! Plus I am dying to get my hands on your bag! (:

Aww this makes me miss my little sister -- she used to have the funniest comments about my outfits!

  14. Lovely first day at work outfit :) Those parents must have been happy seeing their kids taken care by such a chic teacher ;)

I still love that knock-off purse to pieces. It's surprisingly very well-made! I've stuffed it with tons of crap and it's holding up pretty well :)
