Spring 2012 Inspiration

It's hard not to associate Spring with florals, bright colors, and pastels, but I think this season I'm dreaming more of slouchy and relaxed blouses and cropped pants (even though I don't really wear pants, I kind of want to now). I've been really digging polka dots lately too. I feel like my style is on the verge of an evolution because I'm just not feeling my closet or the places that I usually shop at (except for Gap) anymore. Unfortunately, I begrudgingly just paid a $400+ speeding ticket (though I don't think I deserved it...ugh), so I can't do too much shopping at the moment. In any case, I've been too busy to have time for it anyway. I'm so excited for Spring! Spring is my favorite season for many reasons: 1) it means you have survived Winter--you can take that in the literal or metaphorical sense; 2) I adore flowers and seeing the world bloom; 3) Spring weather is filled with my favorite 75-degree days here in SoCal; and 4) romance and bliss just seem to fill the air.

PS. Happy Leap Year!

Jasmine

The Non-Highlights

I initially wasn't going to post these photos since I've been feeling pretty insecure about myself lately, but this blog isn't supposed to just highlight the good points of my life so here we are. I wore this during the week to a morning of my fieldwork. Even though I've been exhausted and busy (I fell asleep at 8:30 last night), my fieldwork has been so enlightening and fun. I was able to give a spelling test to a class of 1st graders, grade tests, record grades in the grade book, help around the classroom, and learn so much from a teacher who has been in the field for 40 years. I'm pretty sure years from now I'm going to find it humorous that I was so excited to be grading papers, but all the firsts are always exciting. This upcoming week I'll be doing fieldwork at a middle school, which weren't the best years of my life, but it'll be interesting to see the teenage angst beginning to bud (lol) as an adult.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Ready for Spring

This is another one of the Jason Wu x Target tops that I ended up deciding to keep. I just really adore the mesh, polka dot top part and the floral print. I am looking forward to styling it more in the Spring and Summer time! This skirt is usually one of the first things I pair my new tops with. It's one of my oldest skirts, but pretty much everything can go with it. I was hoping to have a fun-filled three-day weekend, but it turned out to be a sick four-day weekend instead. Yesterday though I was able to do a little shopping by myself for an hour before getting some work finished. I cannot wait to show you my new top and skirt! I'm really not sure when my next update will be since I wasn't able to take any outfit photos over the weekend, but I will do my best to try this week. I'm so ready for Spring break, and Spring in general. Just a few more weeks and all my applications and fieldwork will be finished. I just gotta hang in there for a little while longer.

Hope you all had a wonderful long weekend!

Hearts on my Legs

Happy Belated Valentine's Day! I hope you all had a love-filled day that day (and everyday after). Robert and I grabbed some sushi and watched "The Vow," which ended up not being what I expected but I still loved it. I actually wore this on the day before Valentine's Day. I threw on my heart printed tights to be a little festive, and these are actually the only non-black tights I've worn all Fall/Winter season. I used to be so much more daring with my legwear. I forgot how much interest they could add to an outfit. They definitely make the rainy days we've been having a little more fun. It's been a crazy, hectic week and I'm looking forward to the three-day weekend so much. These long days have been exhausting.

In the Rough

This outfit--denim jacket and a dress--will probably be my Spring uniform and with the weather being perfect lately, I thought it'd be a good excuse to get used to it. I just love how non-fussy dresses are, and with my fieldwork beginning on Tuesday, I'll probably be in them for the next couple of weeks. Starting tomorrow I'll start my observation and volunteering in a real classroom. I'm super excited because it'll give me a real taste of my future as a teacher. My schedule is going to be super tight and hectic: fieldwork from 8-1; work from 1-6; and on Tuesday and Thursday nights, I have class. I don't mind so much though because my whole day will revolve around things I love--teaching and children. I feel a little more grown up lately because I've been putting my career above other things--relationships, free time, my blog, etc. This is the time for me to be a little selfish, and that's something I'm still getting used to. Don't worry though! I'll find a way to blog somehow.

Have a wonderful Valentine's Day tomorrow! Owl always love you ;)

Take the Wheel

The Jason Wu x Target line is definitely my favorite designer for Target collaborations yet. I'm lucky to have four Targets nearby so I was able to still snatch up things without waking up really early and having to fight off people. Never before did I feel compelled to actually buy four pieces from these collections. I'm probably not going to keep all of them (but I still just might keep them all...). This top though I'm definitely keeping. It's so easy to throw on but I still feel put together because of the wheel-printed bow tie. I can't wait to pair this with more bottoms, and under sweaters and dresses. I also can't wait to style whatever I end up keeping from the Jason Wu x Target line! Did you get a chance to look at or buy anything from the line?

Where the Horizon Dies

I'm so thankful that I can still visit the beach in February barelegged. I'm even more thankful that the beach is only 15 minutes away. I love feeling the sand between my toes and the sun on my face. With the exception of a few sunbathing men and families playing, it was so empty and peaceful on that Friday morning. If I didn't have to go to work that day, I could've stayed there the whole day just watching the sky go from blue to black, and the waves rise and fall. It has been a really relaxing couple of days. Over the weekend, I went mini-golfing, visited my brother in Riverside, and increased my running to 2 miles on Saturday and Sunday. I also scored some pieces from the Jason Wu x Target line! Time to get back to working on my applications and starting on my field work though!

PS. One of my students (a 5-yr old boy named Joseph) made and gave me this bracelet on Thursday. It just melts my heart more than diamonds or pearls ever could.

Not Out of the Woods Yet

So I know I was supposed to have finished my graduate school applications by now, but I was stupid and forgot to do something important so I have to apply by the next and final deadline which is the end of February. I'm kind of relieved though because I can put a little more effort into this last application. I promise I'll try not to neglect this blog anymore than I have recently, but I really do thank you all for being so supportive and understanding about all of this. Because life has been so hectic lately, I've been really loving simple looks. The H&M pocket tees are a new staple in my closet. I have three: black, navy, and white. And I want more of them. They're a mix of some chiffon material and jersey. They're super comfortable--perfect for work, school, and just about anything.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
